La Raja in Las Salinas of Arucas.

This place its in Arucas a borough that belongs to Las Palmas. It located in the north part of Gran Canaria . The Salinas (salt mines) it is a place of bath between steep cliffs on the coast of Arucas. Placed in a virgin zone, at the foot of an old salt mine, to come to this place you have to walk some distance. Its isolation has led to its conversion into a nudist area. Has about 210 meters long and 30 wide and it has a very bad tide, but has some natural pools where swimming is safe.

But if you want to swimm in a secret place where there is less people I recommend you "La Raja" (that´s how we call it, it not an official name) its near the old Salt mines of Arucas when you get there you will see a house and the salt mines in front, if you go five steps into the sea you will see it. You must extreme caution in the area because the tide is very bad, you should only swimm in this place if the tide is low.

You will feel the pleasant sense of freedom and peace.
Hope you enjoy it, i´m sure you will love it!

Discover Agaete

Agaete is a fishing town is situated in the northwest of Gran Canaria, just about 30 kilometers from the capital of the island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

In the historic centre there is the church of the Conception, which replaced the primitive chapel (1515) and gave rise to the first streets and town´s square of the borough. With the construction of the new parish church after a fire in 1874, a new residential area was created in the borough. In front of it is the  Constitution´s Square that was built arround the main buildings of the town.

Agaete also has some important green areas which are a must for visitors: el Huerto de las Flores (The Flower Garden) and the Tamadaba Natural Park. The flower garden is actually a botanical garden in the town centre with a large variety of exotic plant species. It was a meeting place and somewhere to meditate for famous poets of the Canary Islands such as Tomás Morales, Saulo Torón and Alonso Quesada. The Tamadaba Natural Park is a protected arealargest pine forest at the highest altitude of Agaete (1.180 metres), with the in Gran Canaria.

Another particularly pleasant visit is a stroll through Port of Las Nieves, the coastal area of the borough. This is the location of the Chapel of Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves. The Port of Las Nieves is also an ideal place to have a walk through and have a swim in the clean waters of the Atlantic, to see what was the Dedo de Dios (God’s Finger), a magnificent natural monument and symbol of Gran Canaria: a rock formation that stood near the coast town of Agaete reaching out of the sea that was destroyed by the Delta Storm. They say it was the writer Domingo Doreste, 'Fray Lesco', who named it the Finger of God due to it´s shape. Agaete´s Port it´s a place to where you will enjoy the a great sunset view and if you have luck the majesty of the mountain of Teide.

Agaete is one of the borough of Gran Canaria a lot of variety of beaches, although they are mainly rocky and difficult to get to. If you continue walking the seaside walk you will find several natural pools which are ideal for underwater diving.
The main beach, most visited is Las Nieves beach, located between the marina and the old pier.  It´s a mainly stony beach with calmed clear water and a seaside walk with restaurants.
If you come to Agaete you must try a "fish and seafood paella" or a"platter of good fish" from the local area they are some of the main dishes of the gastronomy of the area that I´m sure you will love specially after a swim in the beach. But remember in order to try these specially the paella, it is best to book a table at one of the restaurants on the seaside walk in the Port of Las Nieves, you can also try the most traditional Canary Islands cuisine: scalded gofio, wrinkled potatoes, vinaigrettes and all kinds of fried fish.

Agaete also has its goat cheese, characterised by its smoothness and distinctive flavour. In fact, we should stand out that Agaete has a series of traditional handcrafted cheese factories, such as the "Arterra" yoghurt and The goat cheese factory in the district of El Risco.

The commercial area of Agaete is mainly located in the Port of Las Nieves, as this is the area with the largest number of visitors and tourists, particularly at weekends. Points of interest include the main street with craft shops, food and clothe stores.

I´m sure you will love it and will have a great they in this beautiful town of white houses.

The LLoret, series of waves near the Auditorium

The access to this Spot is on slippery rocks and stones, so be aware. This surf spot is located exactly in front of the Square of Music behind the Auditorium Alfredo Kraus and only a few meters from the spot surf of La Cicer. There is a large dusty parking where you can park, a few meters from the water.

Surfers that aren´t from the city should take a look at the ground because when the tide is low there could be rocks that may suddenly appear. You should also take a look at the attitud of the local surfers so you can have more infomation. So you must be careful.

Spot The Lloret produces lefts and rights waves, to which the rights allow longer and better surfing. Especially in winter waves rear up here to a height of 4 meters and requires strength, experience and tecnique of the surfers.

Surrounding the surf spot it´s been built concrete stairs, where you can enjoy the view as if you were in a podium. As well nearby there are always people with skateboards, running or even parachute landing on the Square of Music and sports people of all types.

From this Spot you have a wonderful view of the cliffs and the reef off the north coast. There you will find for example, The Monument of the Atlantic.

An After some surfing you have to get some energy so the best place to go it´s next to this monument where there is a restaurant with a lovely view in which you can eat typical food.

I hope you enjoy the best waves and the best food and views.

Cabrón beach (Agüimes)

Going down to the coast, Agüimes has a landscape which has been classified as a protected area, for carrying out a special plan for the regulation of the Agüimes coastline.

The Agüimes borough has a 9.9 kilometre-long coastline, which stands out because of it´s enormous beauty. Along it, we find the Arinaga´s beach,Vargas beach, Cabrón beach and several coves.

Cabrón beach is located in the bottom of the mountain of Arinaga and below the lighthouse of the same name. Its seabed is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the Canary Islands, therefore it is an ideal place for underwater diving. It was declared Marine Reserve of Arinaga by the Government of the Canary Islands.

This is the ideal underwater diving for beginners and a perfect place to practice diving courses. Easy access can dive almost all year with a maximum depth of 12 m.

Also in the beach area and along the reef can be found fascinating and colourful fishes, so be aware photographers.

We practically
find the same fish in deep dives of the reservation. In it´s sea bottom you´ll see plenty of different species, not to mention octopus, cuttlefish, spider crabs, etc,.Visibility in this area is rarely less than 15 m.

I recommend because it´s a really peaceful beach. Is not just ideal for underwater diving, next to the beach there are some rocks where small natural swimming pools are formed as you can see in the photo.

It´s worth the ride. You should try underwater diving but if you just want to spent the day, you can get relaxed in it´s blond sand and feel the pleasant sense of freedom in it´s waters.
